RONALDO EXTENDS GOLDEN BOOT LEAD

Cristiano Ronaldo was able to extend his lead in the Golden Boot race as far as the Italian football top flight is concerned following his three goals during the Cagliari game at the weekend. Ronaldo scored all three goals as Juventus took a three-nil at the halftime interval. The Portuguese international skipper scored a perfect hattrick with his head, left foot and right foot. He was the difference maker as Juventus secured a 3-1 win over their hosts to maintain their chase for the league title in the Italian football top flight. Ronaldo and Juventus won an eighth successive league title last season but they are indanger of losing that league title due to the form of Inter Milan. Juventus ensured that they stayed within ten points of league leaders Inter Milan with the win over Cagliari in their latest game in the top flight of Italian football. It must be pointed out that the Old Lady have an outstanding game over Inter Milan and it is at home to Napoli. A win over Napoli in that outstanding match would take Juve above AC Milan into second place and within seven points of Inter Milan at the top of the Italian football top flight table. There are 11 league games to play for Inter Milan and majority of the teams in the division.

Ronaldo has been leading the race to win the Golden Boot for some weeks and he was able to extend his lead by virtue of his hattrick against Cagliari away from home. It was a perfect response to critics from a player in the final years of his career. He was heavily criticised for his performance over the two legs of Juventus’ Champions League tie with FC Porto. Portuguese giants Porto were able to secure a place in the quarterfinals this season at the expense of Juventus by virtue of the away goals rule. Ronaldo now has 23 league goals in the Italian Serie A this season and he has four more goals than nearest challenger RomeluLukaku, who was also on target in the 2-1 away win for his Inter Milan team over hosts Torino.
